The Superseminar
General Information and Schedule
The Superseminar is a 5 p (7.5 hp) course on Supersymmetry and its possible exploration at collider experiments aimed primarily at graduate students in elementary particle physics or closely related fields. Others who share an interest in Supersymmetry and its phenomenology are of course also welcome. The course is planned to begin mid-January 2008 and last for one full semester. The total number of meetings anticipated is of the order 15-20 (approx. once per week).

Format
About one third of the time will be devoted to traditional lectures, one third to discussion seminars (with required reading), and one third to the discussion of problems (which are solved by the participants). Active participation in all these elements will be required to pass the course.

Topics
Topics to be covered in the general Superseminars include the following:- Basics of Supersymmetry, mathematical foundation
- SUSY algebra and representations
- Constructing the MSSM
- Local Supersymmetry, Supergravity
- Mechanisms of SUSY breaking
- MSSM phenomenology
- Grand unification
- Challenges of Supersymmetry - the flavour problem
- Relation to Dark Matter and Cosmology
Literature
Since a large part of the Superseminar will be in the form of self-studies, it is required that all participants have access to the same literature. The main textbook from which the reading material will be selected is:
- P.M.R. Binetruy, Supersymmetry, 2006 (ISBN 0198509545)
NB: There exists an older version of this book in paperback. This is not the version that will be used. Even if the information at some internet bookstores seem to think they are equivalent, they are in fact not. Make sure you get the 2006 version (hardcover).
